Orange Ruler Thank you for your support of our school through the Orange Ruler fundraiser! We were one of the top three classes sending out the most invites so we will have a Jamba Juice party tomorrow! Way to go! The current standing for our class is 7th place. The top ten classes at the end of turn-in are entered in the pig race and the classes that meet their goal receive a Kona Ice party. Turn in date is 4.29.19.
Beautiful art is being put up on display and I also have heard about all of the fun activities planned for families this Friday at 6:30 p.m. for the Art Walk. Plus dessert is available! Hopefully you have the opportunity to check it out. Thank you to Mrs. Faehnrich for being our art docent this year and for all of her help creating such beautiful projects for the art walk! Math This week we started working with money. We discussed the value of different coins, talked about exchanging coins out and worked on story problems involving coins and bills. Reading This week in reading we worked on inferring and summarizing. We also delved a bit into author's purpose. Over the next few weeks, we are going to be really digging into our books asking questions. Social Studies We started our final social studies this unit this week. We created a local map looking at our natural resources. We then started talking about indigenous people and how they used those same resources so long ago. Writing We are doing a two-week focus on grammar, sentence structure and conventions. During this time, students are writing fiction or small moment personal stories using what they learn in the lessons. The stories are amazing! Reminders: -Next week's sharing: Free choice -Please return purple folders daily -Library books are due each Friday. Book bags are due Tuesdays. -Please send 2 small snacks in each day with your student. Have a great weekend! Ms. Warner Dates to Know:

This week we started our 7th module (unit). This unit involves measurement, data, time and money. We worked with organizing data into bar graphs and answering comparing questions. Reading/Social Studies Fairy tale fest was in full swing this week. We enjoyed celebrating the end of this much loved unit with games, a movie, fairy tale reading and the Princess and the Pea play at Carco Theater. Thank you to all of the chaperones for coming along with us and making it a smooth field trip. Writing During fairy tale fest students participated in "speed sharing" by reading their writing and listening to others' writing with several students in other 2nd grade classes. I am so impressed by the depth, volume and improved spelling/conventions in student writing. Reminders: -The sharing next week is to Illustrate and memorize the "Spring Rain" poem. -Please return purple folders daily -Library books are due each Friday. Book bags are due Tuesdays. -Please send 2 small snacks in each day with your student. Have a great weekend! Ms. Warner Dates to Know:
Next week we will have 4 soaring eagles because we were gone for the announcements this week. This week in Room 203...
First off - have a wonderful spring break! We created a graph today and we only have one plane rider (me to Disneyland!), a few trips on ferries and some local vacations, with most students staying close to home this break. Stay-cations are sometimes the best kind. Wherever the break finds you, please enjoy it! Math This week we completed an amazing math task - ask your student how to make a Cascarone Easter egg and also if they think it is possible for a small committee to make 50,000 of them in a year. The mathematical thinking they are displaying is amazing! As you can see from recent Seesaw videos, we are spending a lot of time explaining our thinking in math. Reading/Social Studies This week we continued our well-loved fairy tale unit. We have discussed the elements of a fairy tale, compared and contrasted fairy tales from different countries and learned how to fracture a fairy tale. We also learned about inferring and lessons of a story. Writing Students have been so excited working on their fractured fairy tales. Their growth in writing from the beginning of the year until now is huge! We have clear paragraphs, dialogue and stories that show humor and wit. Reminders: -The sharing after break is Earth Day writing. -Please return purple folders daily -Library books are due each Friday. Book bags are due Tuesdays. -Please send 2 small snacks in each day with your student. Have a great weekend! Ms. Warner Dates to Know:
