Report Cards
Report cards will go live on Tuesday, 3.26.19. Our goal is for students to be working at a level 3 in all areas - that is grade level and exactly where they are supposed to be. To obtain a 4 students need to be consistently showing work at least a full grade level above where they are. If you have any questions or concerns about your student's report card, please let me know. Music Program Just a reminder the 2nd grade musical has been moved to Thursday, March 28th. Students will perform for the school at 3:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. for families. Students should wear any solid or plain colored shirt with jeans or pants to school and for the evening performance. Seesaw This week's pictures show our opinion writing picnic celebration. This week in Room 203... Reading This week we wrapped up discussing our series books. We focused on how best to share books we love with others. Students created posters, billboards, computer graphic signs and wrote recommendations. Please encourage your students to read chapter books at their level and ask questions about their reading. Writing This week we focused on revising and publishing our opinion pieces in preparation for our fabulous picnic celebration where we shared our writing with other 2nd graders. We took the district assessment for opinion writing. Students worked hard to write a convincing piece within 60 minutes. They showed grit and determination. Social Studies This week we researched potential careers we might want to have and wrote letters to people in the community in those careers who might want to come talk to our class about their jobs. If you are interested in talking to our class about your career and the path to get there, please let me know. We would love to have you in! Last year, my class had visits from the FBI, the police, an attorney, a game designer, etc. I am hoping to have some of those same people come this year as the students loved it! Reminders: -Next week's sharing is free choice (please no stuffed animals or toys). -Please return purple folders daily -Library books are due each Friday. Book bags are due Tuesdays. -Please send 2 small snacks in each day with your student. Have a great weekend! Ms. Warner Dates to Know:

Progress Reports/Report Cards Due to the snow days, report cards have been pushed back to 3.26.19. I will be sending home progress reports on Monday for your information. Students have struggled a bit this week with getting back into the groove of school and I want them to have a chance to get back on track following school and classroom expectations. I encourage you to go over the progress reports together and have students share our expectations with you and how they can best follow them to be the best student they can be. They are a fabulous group of kids! Goodbye Sweet Molly Students sent Molly off with well wishes and heartfelt messages as she and her family move to Utah. We will miss you Molly! Science Fair Students participating in the Science Fair should drop their projects off on Tuesday between 345 and 530. The Science Fair/STEM night will be on Friday, 3.8 at 6-730. This week in Room 203... Math We jumped right back into multiplication continuing to work with arrays, equal groups and repeated addition. We finished off the week with a fun math task - ask your students how many pizzas we need for a pizza party in our class and have them explain their mathematical thinking. Reading This week we focused on character development in our fiction stories. We discussed character traits, motivations, problem solving and relationships. Our read-aloud Matilda, has been much loved and has worked perfectly for these discussions. Writing We started our opinion writing unit working to write letters suggesting our favorite books to friends and family. We have discussed introductions, providing strong reasons to support our opinions and conclusions where we restate our opinion. Social Studies Students worked to solve several problems in our community. The first was a lack of customers coming into our businesses. To solve this, students created an ad campaign. The second problem was opening a new business in vacant lot. Students drafted maps of our current community and made arguments for what business would be the most beneficial to add to our community. Seesaw Recent posts show your students working with our Kindergarten buddies to create school-wide expectation posters as well as buddy reading during our Read Across America school-wide read-in. Testing Next week will be our last test for the HICAP programs. It will be over three days (3.5 - 3.7) in the morning. Please make sure your students are well rested and have had breakfast. You will find good luck notes in the purple folder to send in. Valentine's Party Thank you to Mrs. Johnson for planning our party and to all of the volunteers who helped out and to those of you who sent items in. Thank you also for the Valentine treats!
