This week in Room 203:
Countdown activities included: Building a STEM tent with our Kindergarten buddies, Extra recess, Minute to win it games and Camp Learn-a-lot. The fun continues next week... Monday we will have read-in. Students can bring in blankets, pillows and wear the pajamas. We are looking for mystery readers to pop in anytime between 9:30 and 11:30 to read a book to us. You can bring in a favorite picture book or read a book I have in class. Please email me if you are available to stop in. Reminder - tomorrow is our field trip to the Pacific Science Center. Please pack a sack lunch for your student along with a snack and a water bottle. If you are a chaperone, please bring a backpack for your student items and plan to check in tomorrow morning in Room 203 by 9:15 a.m. Math This week we took the final assessment of the year. The information covered during this unit involved geometry and time. We are finishing the year off with more fraction work and at the students' request: multiplication! Reading We fortunately have continued to have a solid reading block of time even with the end of year craziness. We have spent this time working on summarizing and finishing up the books we have been reading from our book boxes. Writing/Science We finished our graphic novels this week using onomatopoeia words, thought bubbles and strong endings. This week in Room 203...
This we week we had a blast doing activities as part of our countdown. Activities included: friendship day, write with a pen all day, no shoes and music request day. The fun continues next week... Math This week we continued our final unit, Module 8 - Geometry. We practiced partitioning shapes into equal shares and discussed halves, thirds, fourths, etc. Reading This week we focused on stopping and jotting about our reading. Students stopped to jot to retell, ask a question, make a connection, note new vocabulary and to track a character's journey up the story mountain. Writing/Science We continued to write informational how to books involving force and motion using what we know about writing like a scientist. Students created a table of contents and are writing several chapters in their how to books. Reminders: -Next week's sharing: Letter to next year's 2nd graders -Please return purple folders daily -Library books are due each Friday.
