This week in Room 203...
Please follow the directions (in your curriculum night packet) to get notifications from Seesaw. Each of your students has a journal that will have videos, pictures and assignments posted to it. The latest in Seesaw shows your students talking about their favorite book. Reading This week we continued to work on strategies for working with tricky words. We also talked about author intention. Author's intention is a great way to think about our reading and ask questions. We used this practice with our current read-aloud book, the Lemonade War. Students figured out the author intended there to be conflict between the siblings in the book so that their would be a lemonade stand battle and a resolution at the end. Writing This week and a nice tie-in to reading, was a lot of about author intention. How do you want your piece to be perceived? We also compared a second grade piece of writing to a third grade piece of writing and talked about the differences. This helped us set goals for ourselves as writers. Math We completed Module (Unit) Two, our measurement unit. We took the end of unit assessment today, which will come home next week for your review. We will start our unit on Place Value next week. We worked on real world math tasks this week and I was amazed at the varying strategies students had to solve repeated addition/early multiplication problems. Social Studies We continue to work on citizenship, talking about rights and responsibilities. We wrapped up the week creating hand posters outlining the rights we have as students as well as our responsibilities. Eagle Reader
