This week in Room 203...
The latest in Seesaw shows your students talking about their favorite book (videos are live now =). Please send me an email if you need the link to sign up for Seesaw - it is a great way to see what is going on in our classroom. Un-homework/Book Bags If your child chooses to do this, un-homework is due every Monday. They have 5 options to choose from including the attached worksheets and choices from the monthly calendar sent with the first packet of the month. Book bags should be returned every Tuesday to check out on Thursdays. If you need a copy of the form for your child to check out book bags, please send me an email. Reading We finished our first reading unit this week talking about lessons authors teach us and comprehension work. We used the Somebody - Wanted - But - So method to retell our stories. We celebrated our growth as readers by sharing our favorite books and creating cover art. Writing We worked on craft moves this week by studying mentor texts. We admired how master authors told their personal narratives using craft moves such as dialogue, description, feelings, literary language and inner thoughts. We are working to use at least 3 craft moves in our own pieces. Math We started Module (Unit) 3 by developing efficient and effective counting strategies working with numbers up to 1000. Students were able to strategize and count over 1000 straws by bundling them into groups of 10 and then groups of 100. They were able to do this in less than 7 minutes - all 18 students working together! Social Studies We continue to work on citizenship, talking about rights and responsibilities as a U.S. citizen. Thank you to our classroom volunteers! Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Heiter, Mrs. Wallis, our art docent, Mrs. Faehnrich and our room parent, Mrs. Johnson! Have a great weekend! Ms. Warner Dates to Know:
