This week in Room 203...
A reminder about conferences... Conferences in 2nd grade are student-led. Your student will attend and lead the first part of the conference talking about goals, reflections and showing student work. I will have time at the end to talk about student growth and progress. Reading We continued our non-fiction unit this week studying how information is connected across texts. Students worked in teams to research books to find similar text features and facts. Writing Students worked this week to determine who their audience is that they are writing to, what questions the audience might have and how can we make our books readable to to our audience (edit to check our spelling and punctuation!). Math We dove into our 4th math module (unit) this week. This unit focuses in on strategies for solving multi-digit addition and subtraction problems as well as solving story problems. Students are introduced to many different strategies - this can cause some frustration. I let the students know that I want them to have many tools in their math tool box and once they have those tools they can choose the strategy that works the best for them. Science This week we continued our work on ecosystems talking about changes in an ecosystem and if the change was a human or natural cause and what the effect of the change might be. This week's thank you's go to: Mr. Soble for volunteering as a watchdog, Mrs. Wallis for helping during our math block, Mrs. Boyd for helping me around the classroom, Mrs. Faehnrich for a fabulous art lesson and Mrs. Avila for assisting. Thank you also to all of our parents who worked in the book fair. Have a great weekend! Ms. Warner Dates to Know:
