This week in Room 203...
Orange Ruler Thank you for your support of our school through the Orange Ruler fundraiser! We were one of the top three classes sending out the most invites so we had a Jamba Juice party! We also came in 6th place overall, surpassing our goal. This earned us a spot in the pig race and a Kona Ice party. While our pig looked very stylish (pictures to be sent separately!) he was not very speedy, despite his name - "Speedy." However, our class definitely was in fine speedy form at the fun run! Math This week we continued to work with money. We discussed the value of different coins, talked about exchanging coins out and worked on story problems involving coins and bills. We also discussed making change from larger bills. Reading This week in reading we worked on author's purpose and summarizing. We have read many books this week that involve empathy and kindness. Students have come so far in their discussions about the books they are reading and are really deep thinkers! Social Studies We continued to work on our map of the Issaquah area this week. We added in locations where coal was mined, logging occurred and farming took place. Students are working on posters to create a gallery walk of transportation (steam engines, ferries, horse and buggy, trains). Writing We continued our focus on grammar, sentence structure and conventions. Students wrapped up their fiction stories in preparation for our new unit starting next week: writing scientific lab reports. Reminders: -Next week's sharing: Bag buddies (let me know if you need a bag) -Please return purple folders daily -Library books are due each Friday. Book bags are due Tuesdays. -Please send 2 small snacks in each day with your student. Have a great weekend! Ms. Warner Dates to Know:
