Important Information about the 4th grade Field Trip - Tillicum Excursion on Oct. 17th
This amazing experience includes an Argosy Cruise to Blake Island for a 4-hour immersion into the history, culture, and traditions of Northwest Native American tribes. Highlights include:
Highlights of the week: Curriculum Night - I enjoyed seeing so many of you and hope I didn't overwhelm with you with trying to cram a year's worth of plans into 30 minutes. This is a great group of students and we are already off to a great start. Please contact me anytime with any questions. Character Trait - Each month we will focus in on an important trait as a whole school. The trait for September is "responsibility." I am really watching for students who are following our class and school expectations. Math: We took a district assessment this week as well as a mid-module assessment. We continue to talk about estimating as we move into adding/subtracting larger digits, including solving word problems. Reading: In reading, we are putting ourselves into our characters' shoes and practicing envisioning while we read. I am noticing as I test the students' reading levels, most of them can read any text put before them but struggle with comprehending what they have just read or thinking beyond the text. You can help with this by asking your students' questions about their reading and also providing them paper to stop and jot their thoughts as they read. Writing: This week we focused in on creating characters that go beyond surface level - we talked about creating traits for our character (inside and outside), having our characters have needs and wants, problems and ways to solve the problems. Science: This week we focused on perspective when looking at the earth, moon and sun, completed a very fun experiment involving gravity and made spacecraft landers with a STEM project.
