Thank you for those who volunteered to chaperone! I have the following parents signed up and the fees have will be added to your students' account: -Erica and JT Batterson -James Tutor -Hope and Philip Guy -Nicole Wittren -Cynthia Graff If you volunteered and are not on the list, please email me as soon as possible. More details about the field trip to come home soon. This week...was jam packed! We started the week receiving a class award from Ms. Tapper for answering questions about Constitution Day (or as one student called it accidentally "Constipation Day") - the students were great at researching the answers and working as a team. We also had our first mini marketplace today - I apologize in advance for the candy - I told the students to ask parents first before they ate it! I had the students act as bankers and shopkeepers for each other -a great time was had by all. Other highlights of the week: Character Trait - Each month we will focus in on an important trait as a whole school. The trait for September is "responsibility." Congratulations to Madeline (Maddy) and Tytan are first character trait recipients. Math: This week we focused on standard algorithm in both addition and subtraction. We talked about why we borrow and how we can determine if our answers are reasonable. I am so impressed with how this group shares their math thinking and in such an entertaining way using SeeSaw! Reading: In reading, we are continuing our character studies through our read-aloud Tiger Rising and on our books. Students are really growing their thoughts about their character (for example: She is nice vs. He sits by himself in the last sit on the bus so no one will bother him and he doesn't have to deal with things). Writing: This week we focused in on using mentor texts to write and revise our introductions. We also continued to talk about showing rather then telling during our writing. (He is upset vs. He slammed the door behind him as he left the run in a huff). Science: This week we did more work with gravity and varying viewpoints of the sun/moon from earth. We discussed ancient civilizations and their different perspectives of the earth/sun. Important Dates
