Highlights of this short week (Monday was a teacher work day and Friday our fabulous field trip!)
Character Trait - Each month we will focus in on an important trait as a whole school. The trait for October is "acceptance." Math: This week we worked on using metric capacity, including adding and subtracting mixed-measurements as well as solved word problems using length, mass and capacity. The end of unit test for this unit will be on Wednesday. Reading: In reading, we reviewed our pre-assessment and looked over sample responses. We used a rubric to grade the responses to help us with our reading responses for the post-assessment students are taking on Monday. Writing: This week we completed publication of our realistic fiction stories. We will share them with our classmates in a celebration on Thursday. We will take the on-demand for this unit on Tuesday - please talk with your students tonight to help them come up with story ideas for a narrative or realistic fiction story. Social Studies: This week we had a whole grade-level lesson on Washington geography and created maps. We also explored items used by the indigenous people from at trunk loaned to us from the Burke Museum. The highlight of the week was the field trip to Blake Island - the boat ride, presentation, food and beach area were the highlight. One other highlight - having a bus with a bathroom. I have never had so many students ask to use the bathroom in 50 minutes before! Please encourage students to read all directions in their assignments during school, not rush through their work, complete all assigned work and turn in homework. All of these skills are important to being successful in school. We practice and I remind them often, but hope you can help as well. Important Dates:
